Elche more than a palm town - city, land and water

The "palm city" Elche/Elx is not only Alicante province's second largest city with almost 250,000 people. It is an area in the province of Alicante that contains both a large city center, a huge area of land that lies between the city and the Mediterranean, as well as the wonderful beach area around Los Arenales del Sol.

Although the airport in the province is actually in Elche, there are many tourists who just drive south to Torrevieja and the surrounding towns, and north towards Alicante and the towns near Benidorm. Elche is probably the place in the province with the greatest variety of different residential areas. The center consists of apartments, terraced houses and blocks of flats, the "countryside" consists of fincas, villas and houses, many of which have large gardens or land. Here you will also find large plots of land that have not been built on, and a large selection of different types of palm forest. There is a lot of agriculture and business linked to the sale of trees, the cultivation of all kinds of fruit and vegetables and the production of olive oil. Without GPS, it is easy to get lost here. Los Arenales with its Carabassi Beach and Arenales Beach, which are among the best on the entire Costa Blanca coast, is actually part of Elche. In addition to permanent residents, there are many Spaniards from the interior who have holiday homes here. The area has both luxury apartments and ordinary apartments. And almost all the blocks of flats are close to the beach.

Explore Elche/Elx

Elche is probably best known to many as the palm city, the production and sale of shoes and agriculture and forestry. This made the city prosperous, but the relocation of shoe production to China meant that you see slightly fewer expensive cars today. The city center itself has a bustling life and in Elche you will find a sea of very good restaurants both in the center and in the areas on the outskirts. Compared to the restaurants in Alicante city, you often get the same quality at a lower price. The city also has the Alicante province's best football and handball teams that compete in the top divisions. The football team probably goes up and down a bit between La Liga and Segunda Division. But now it has been decided to build a brand new stadium in Elche, which today holds 36,000 spectators, so maybe that will have something to do with the results as well. If you want to go to Elche, you almost have to take a trip to the castle, the Cathedral and the Palm Grove (El Palmeral de Elche - located on the UNESCO World Heritage List), which is used for walks, training and even joint yoga. Palmelunden is close to both residential areas and restaurants and shopping opportunities. Shared underground parking is only 50 meters from Palmelunden and the castle. We feel that Elche is a bit forgotten by many tourists and residents outside Elche. We recommend taking a trip.
