Albir / Alfaz del Pi
Alfaz del Pi is the most Scandinavian town in Alicante province.
Alfaz del Pi has a strong Scandinavian feel, and it is a fairly common perception among both locals and other Europeans. Especially among Spaniards and other international residents of the Costa Blanca, the town is known for its Norwegian and Scandinavian environment.
Alfaz del Pi has one of the highest proportions of Norwegians per capita outside Norway. Many Scandinavians, especially Norwegians and Swedes, have settled here permanently or have holiday homes in the area. In some areas of Alfaz del Pi and Albir you hear more Norwegian, Swedish and Danish than Spanish! Several Spanish businesses and service providers have Scandinavian staff or a Scandinavian menu. Many restaurants and cafes are run by Scandinavians, and it is easy to find Norwegian food, Swedish cinnamon buns and Danish open sandwiches. The Norwegian school on the Costa Blanca (primary and secondary) is an important part of the Norwegian community. Here you will find all kinds of Scandinavian institutions such as bookstores, grocery stores, health services, doctors, dentists, churches, clubs and associations. Many Spaniards and other Europeans call Alfaz del Pi "Little Norway" or "Scandinavia in Spain". Spanish local newspapers often write about the strong Scandinavian presence in the city. Some think it is great that the city has an international atmosphere, while others believe that it has made the city a little "less Spanish". Although Alfaz del Pi has a Spanish core, there is no doubt that the city is strongly influenced by Scandinavian culture.
Location and housing
The municipality of Alfaz del Pi is divided into two, with Alfaz del Pi located a short distance from the coast, while Albir, which is also part of Alfaz del Pi, is a small coastal town with a long beach. Alfaz del Pi has an attractive housing market, especially for Norwegians and other Europeans. Many choose to settle in Albir, the more modern coastal part of the city, where there are luxury apartments and villas with sea views. However, there is a large offer of houses/villas, townhouses and apartments in several price ranges in the municipality. Housing prices are generally cheaper than in Altea and Benidorm, but higher than in inland towns. Alfaz del Pi and Albir have a fantastic location. It is not a long drive to the Alicante province's most visited tourist attractions El Castell de Guadelest , the cold spring water in the pools of Fonts de L´Algar. Aqualandia, the theme park Terra Mitica, Terra Natura, Mundomar. One should also not forget the town of La Nucia, which was named European City of Sports by the European Commission in 2024. A huge sports park is currently being built in La Nucia. And of course, one must not forget everything that is happening in Benidorm, the most lively city in the province of Alicante. As you can see, there are a huge number of activities for both young and old within relatively short distance. It is therefore not surprising that Alafaz del Pi has become such a popular place to live permanently or as a holiday destination.
