Orihuela town is the capital of the wonderful Orihuela Costa - the housing markets in the district
When many people think of Orihuela, they often think of Orihuela Costa. But Orihuela is also a separate town approx. 20 km inland. The city has approximately 35,000 people, while the entire district has approximately 100,000 permanent residents.
As in most places, house prices tend to be higher the closer you get to the coast, so house prices in Orihuela town are therefore lower than on Orihuela Costa. Orihuela Costa consists of towns and places such as Cabo Roig, La Zenia, Campoamar, Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca, Villamartin and Mil Palmeras. Just a little to the north you can also find Torrevieja. Closer to the coast you will of course find all types of housing such as apartments, terraced houses, houses and fincas. Here you can choose between the somewhat more affordable apartments and the more luxurious villas. In the city of Orihuela, you can find both apartments in the city and houses and fincas just outside the city center at prices that can be fun to compare with prices along the coast. On Orihuela Costa there are almost 50% international residents, therefore also higher house prices.
Orihuela city
Orihuela city is located at the foot of the Sierra de Orihuela mountain, 50 km from Alicante city. In contrast to Orihuela Costa, the population is mainly Spanish. Orihuela is a "working city" located in an agricultural municipality, where oranges and lemons are grown in abundance. Around the city you will find Europe's second largest forest of palm trees - The Palmeral of Orihuela. Orihuela city was once Alicante province's most important city. With that as a background; then you realize that there is a lot of old history here that is exciting to explore. There are, among other things, a number of attractive Baroque buildings in the city such as Baroque The College of Santa Domingo originally Dominican Monestery and after that university in 1569, Orihuela cathedral with a Gothic building with Romanesque cloister, not to forget the museums that show much of the old Baroque - the story. If you want to live in a more Spanish environment, you choose to live a little closer to the city than out on the Orihuela Costa, and you get to experience Alicante's and Spain's old history. There are a number of major highways leading to Orihuela town, so even though the town is slightly inland, it doesn't take too long to get to the coast.
