Altea is the most exclusive and romantic residential area in Alicante province.

Altea is best known for the romantically charming old town, and is often called the white city, as well as for the very exclusive residential area Altea Hills, which lies up against the mountains above the town of Altea itself.

The old town of Altea is truly romantic and charming. The old town is known for its cobbled streets, whitewashed houses and fantastic views over the Mediterranean. There are a wealth of good restaurants, bars, cozy cafes, art galleries and shops selling local handicrafts. When you walk around here, you really feel a special atmosphere as if you are part of ancient Spanish history. Almost in the middle of the old town is the wonderful church of Nuestra Senora del Consuela. It was built in the 1800s and has a characteristic blue and white dome which is the hallmark of Altea. The church is situated with a fantastic view over the Mediterranean. You will of course find many cozy excellent restaurants with a great view in the old town.

Not far from the old town is the beach where you have access to all kinds of activities such as swimming, diving, sailing, fishing and more. Here you will also find several fine restaurants and bars. As you can imagine, you can choose to live in the center of Altea city between apartments close to the romantic and charming old town or you can choose exclusive houses, terraced houses and exclusive blocks of flats a little outside the old town or close to the Mediterranean. Altea is not far from the neighboring town of Albir with a fantastic beach promenade. And a few more minutes and you're in Benidorm.

Altea Hills

Altea Hills is located against the mountain Sierra de Bernia. There are several fantastic viewpoints on the way up to the top. At the very top you can also see to the other side, to towns such as Calpe and the mountain town of Callosa de ´En Sarriá, where you will find the Fonts de L'Algar. Altea Hills is perhaps the most prestigious urbanization in the entire Alicante province. Altea Hills is on the other side of AP7 for Altea city. Here you get a view of the Mediterranean, Altea, Albir, Benidorm and other cities which is absolutely fantastic. There are many who want to pay extra for this view and to be part of this exclusive urbanization. Nor is it just the view and belonging to an exclusive area that attracts. Many appreciate the extra security and the private life you have here. The entrance to all residential areas is closed with permanent security guards and surveillance. Because some of the houses are not exclusive enough, luxury is probably more correct. Even if you don't intend to spend that much money on housing, Altea is definitely worth a visit. Although the road up to Altea Hills has some safety stops, you can usually just say that you just want to look in case the area might be something for you to buy in. You will be asked a few simple questions about where you are from, etc .before they let you past.
