Los Arenales is not only a pleasant little coastal town with a fantastically large, fine-grained sandy beach. The town is almost within walking distance of both the airport and Alicante city. Good and nice restaurants are located in a row in the town, along the beach and the promenade.
For those driving from or to the airport or Alicante city, you will hardly notice that there is a small coastal gem right near the airport itself and the capital of the province. Los Arenales is in the south the closest beach town to Alicante city. It takes only 5 minutes to the airport and less than 10 minutes to Alicante city. The long beach stretches almost to Alicante city and to Santa Pola past Gran Alacant. The city is a bit divided. In the older and largest part of the city, there are many, both permanent resident Spaniards and Spaniards with holiday and leisure homes. Here, the apartments are located both close to the beach and a little up in the city. The newer modern part of Los Arenales has a very international environment, with some luxurious homes near the sandy Carabassi Beach with good views and sunshine. You can see one of the apartment blocks from a long distance because it is shaped like a large modern cruise ship. But no matter where you have an apartment and home in Los Arenales, it is walking distance to the beach, restaurants and bars.
Fitness and hiking opportunities in Los Arenales
The very long beach of course provides great opportunities for long runs or walks. In the morning you can also see groups doing yoga or simpler exercise to music. You can also often see school classes practicing paddling, kayaking, etc. It is also a very common sight to see people practicing swimming both with and without a wetsuit. But Los Arenales does not only have a long, beautiful beach. The city also has a promenade that runs along the beach throughout the city, and is of course also used a lot for runs and walks. The promenade is also perfect for rollerblading and skateboarding. And the training and walking opportunities do not stop there. Los Arenales borders the beautiful Clot de Galvany nature reserve. Here there is a fantastic bird and wildlife with a network of hiking trails that you can use for nice walks whether you walk or run or just want to enjoy the nature here. Very often you meet nature photographers when you take a walk into Clot de Galvany. The nature reserve separates Los Arenales from Gran Alacant. Many people probably think of the two towns, which are connected by Carabassi Beach, as one unit, even though Los Arenales is part of the municipality of Elche and Gran Alacant is part of Santa Pola. It is only a few minutes from Los Arenales to the shopping centre in Gran Alacant.
