The town of Urbanova, a suburb of Alicante, has the best sandy beach in the province with best space.
Urbanova is actually a small “hidden” coastal gem of a town, almost reserved for Spaniards. With such a long, wide and fine-grained sandy beach with plenty of space between people, it is difficult to find other places.
The only connection most people have with Urbanova is that they fly over the residential area when landing and taking off from the airport in Elche/Alicante. The slightly older high-rise apartment blocks that you almost fly right over, make you not think that this is an area for comfortable relaxation. Even though Urbanova is the closest town/city south of Alicante city, you would think that more foreigners would have found their way to this large and quiet beach area. But this town is actually very Spanish, with a good number of holiday apartments from Spaniards inland
You might think that the sound of the planes would be a problem. But you don't really think about it when you're here, although of course you can hear them. I often go here to have a drink and enjoy the beach. The restaurant Moments, which is right on the beach promenade, is one of my favourite restaurants, and one of the ones outside my own local residential area that I visit most often. The residential area consists mostly of apartments in these blocks of flats, but there are also some townhouses and houses in the area.
Sandy beach
Playa de Saladares Urbanova is a fine-grained sandy beach with a great promenade with restaurants and bars that runs parallel all the way along the town. Since Urbaova is such a small place, you can hardly call it a town, so there are not that many locals in the residential area to fill the large beach. And when foreigners have not found their way to a particular extent, this gives much more space to frolic on other beaches in the Alicante province. The beach has many playgrounds for children, and you can therefore easily entertain children on this nice beach. But this beach does not only go through the city. You can walk along the shore all the way to Alicante city. Between Urbanova and Alicante city you also see a lot of people standing and fishing, so there are probably fish here. The other way the sandy beach goes to the slightly larger town of Los Arenales and Arenales beach , on to Gran Alacant and Carabassi Beach.
If you can't find a spot without being too cramped along this area, then you'll have to search a long way along the Costa Blanca coast to find some beaches with better space.
Just outside Urbanova towards Alicante you will also find a very large parking lot, which is used by many campers. The area will be further developed in the coming years with promenades, cycle paths, walkways and more that will go all the way from Alicante city through Urbanova to Los Arenales. But this is a large prestige project and will probably take some time. But it says something about the possibilities in this area.
